1BC™ Napa: First Field Day

We’re excited to announce the first Napa field day for the One Block Challenge™ (1BC), organised by the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation and Napa Green. This event marks the official start of 1BC™ in Napa and offers participating growers a chance to meet each other, connect with some of the regional 1BC™ team, and discuss the first steps in implementing regenerative practices on their blocks.

The Field Day is also a great opportunity for anyone who hasn’t yet joined to learn more about the One Block Challenge™ and enroll their vineyard for the 2026 season.

Caine Thompson | Trustee Regenerative Viticulture Foundation

Caine  has cemented his industry leadership in sustainable winegrowing and operations throughout his wine industry career. In addition to being a trustee of the Regenerative Viticulture Foundation he has extensive knowledge and experience in implementing regenerative vineyard practices.

In 2017, he joined Rabble Wine Company and as President (prior to O’Neill’s acquisition in 2021), he led the brand with the Earth in mind. Several of these sustainability programs he started continue at Rabble today through Caine’s direction at O’Neill (1% for the planet). He also initiates and implements green practices, leading the charge for sustainable certified for 200+ growers (15,000 acres) on behalf of the entire O’Neill organization. Since joining O’Neill Vintners & Distillers in October 2020, Caine has developed and launched a regenerative viticulture case study that will impact wine farming practices for years to come, which has now evolved to 1,000 in conversion to regenerative organic.

Jordan Lonborg | Regenerative Consultant at Coastal Vineyard Care

Jordan began his career at Monterey Pacific Inc., managing nearly 4,000 vineyard acres. Over his tenure, he progressed from Viticulture Technician to Pest Control Advisor and eventually to Viticulturist.

In 2016, he joined Tablas Creek Vineyard, where he played a key role in managing the estate’s 280-acre property, overseeing estate operations, grower relations, and sustainability programs. He was instrumental in piloting the Regenerative Organic Certified® (ROC) program, helping shape the standard and guiding Tablas Creek to become the first vineyard in the world to achieve ROC certification.

In recent years, Jordan has also consulted on projects where vineyard owners want to transition to regenerative viticulture.

Jordan holds a degree in Fruit Science from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo. He joined CVCA in 2025 with the ambition of redefining what it means to farm wine grapes in California.

Dustin Owen | Director of Winemaking at Celani Family Vineyard

Dustin Owen leads winemaking with a dynamic energy rooted in regenerative farming and nature-led practices. He believes every vineyard strives toward greatness and that each site must be guided thoughtfully to reach its full potential. A blend of old-world tradition and modern technique, Dustin’s path includes time in Burgundy, where he learned finesse and respect for wine culture, and Australia, where he gained an appreciation for efficiency and site-driven growing.

Based in Napa since 2012, Dustin has worked with both large wineries and family estates, experiences that shaped his hands-on, decisive approach. At Celani Family Vineyards, he focuses on bringing life and energy into the vineyard and cellar, crafting wines that are deeply textured, balanced, age-worthy, and enjoyable in their youth. When he’s not in the vineyard or cellar, Dustin enjoys backpacking, cycling, golf, mushroom hunting, and cooking. He lives in Napa with his wife Jennifer, their daughter Marley, and their dog, Burt Reynolds.

Ben Mackie | Vineyard Program Director at Napa Green

For the past 15 years, Ben has been designing and implementing regenerative farming systems in a variety of ecosystems. A New Englander by birth, Ben fell in love with agriculture in the verdant fields of northern California in high school. Ever since, Ben has been managing farms, improving soils, and educating the next crop of environmental stewards with a holistic view of farming with natural systems. No stranger to Napa, he previously lived on Mt Veeder, where he fell in love with the oak and madrone woodlands and made friends with the local ravens. When Ben is not helping Napa’s vineyards adopt 21st century practices, he is spending time with his impressive wife and two wild children in the woods and on the water. Ben currently occupies Nisenan Territory and is a proud alumnus of Sterling College in Northeast Vermont, where he received a BA in Sustainable Agriculture.
